The inspiration for Transparency came from the modern lifestyle that emerged after the industrial revolution. This lifestyle, characterized by simplicity and a focus on satisfying physical needs, has evolved into an artful taste that combines the satisfaction of physical needs with philosophical meaning. Cheng's design aims to create an airy, see-through, lightweight living space that embodies this philosophy.

Transparency's unique features lie in its use of massing, proportion, and penetration to create the interior space. The walls, covered with bent stainless steel, transform into functional carriers that house lighting, kitchen, sanitary, storage, pipes, and air conditioning. The natural light refracting into the curvy wall adds an enticing touch to the spatial forms and expression.

The design was realized using a variety of technologies. The wall, considered as a single composition of a three-dimensional framework, was covered with bent stainless steel. This metamorphosed the wall into a functional carrier, which encompasses lighting, bears kitchen, sanitary, storage, pipes, air con, essential fixtures of daily living. When natural light refracts into the curvy wall, its hairline luster adds an enticing touch to spatial forms and expression.

The design was a challenge due to the limited passage of the stairway. From assembly, welding, to polishing, the wire shelving free standing was completely tailor-made on site. The shelving is asymmetrical and it develops its shape through on-site exploration. Every shelf and wire rod is joined with precise measurements and proportion. The consequence adapts to actual condition, culminating with a light-weight but powerful massing with practical functions.
